Statue of Maj. Gen. Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben at Visitor Center at Monmouth Battlefield State Park, located at Manalapan, N.J., July 7, 2021. In March 1778, Gen. George Washington made von Steuben responsible for training the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. His uniform standard of drill - Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States – enabled the American forces to compete on equal terms with the British Army. The results of his training were seen at the Battle of Monmouth, June 28, 1778, the last battle of Philadelphia campaign. The Park was dedicated June 28, 1978, the battle’s bicentennial.
