The one kilometer, four-lane Battah Bridge in Iraq's Babil Province will connect the central and southern regions of Iraq through the Euphrates River while easing traffic in Hilla City, Babil’s capital. Budgeted at $5 million, the USAID IGPA/Takamul Project facilitated the implementation of this project using standard bidding documents and a simplified contracting mechanism that cuts through the old system’s complex process while safeguarding against manipulation and corruption. As of March 2021, 150 projects have been awarded using USAID’s new bidding tools across nine Iraqi provinces, worth a total of $808 million.
