Navy PACT Sailor From NY Gets Rating at FET Event in Japan [Image 20 of 20]

220415-N-TH560-0222 SASEBO, Japan (April 15, 2022) - Command Senior Chief Shanika Jones, a detailer from Navy Personnel Command, and Seaman Joshua Dilone, from the Bronx, New York, pause for a photo during a Navy Personnel Command (NPC) Fleet Engagement Team event onboard Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo.
Dilone and his brother, Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Richard Dilone, enlisted in the Navy as part of the Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) program. Richard Dilone went through the same process as his brother during a Career Development Symposium at Naval Base San Diego in November 2021, so when Jones met Joshua Dilone in Sasebo, Japan, she was able to designate him as an Operations Specialist with duty station orders to the same command as his brother, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111), using the Navy’s sibling collocation preference.
“For me to be able to see a smile on his mother’s face knowing that two of her kids are going to be on a warfighting vessel together, and she doesn’t have to worry about one being in Japan and one being in San Diego… she can rest just a little bit more at night,” Jones said. “For me to have the opportunity to be able to do that - that’s what brings passion to the job for me.”
The Fleet Engagement Team, consisting of enlisted community managers, rating specialists and detailers from NPC, worked one-on-one with PACT Sailors in Japan to provide career counseling, designate ratings and negotiate orders on site.
