The primary aircraft assigned to Portland Air Force Base’s 337th Fighter Group (Air Defense) was the Convair F-102A Delta Dagger fighter-interceptor. This view of the group’s 460th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron F-102A serial number 56-1458 shows the aircraft landing at Portland with drag chute deployed in October, 1963. The 460th FIS aircraft had a large tiger head painted on the tails of its aircraft with the squadron’s Latin motto underneath, “Cave Tigrim” (Beware the Tiger).
