An aerial view of the Portland Air Force Base (AFB), Oregon Air Defense Command (ADC) Apron, home of the 337th Fighter Group (Air Defense), circa 1962. Present are approximately 20 F-102A Delta Dagger fighter-interceptors, and perhaps five T-33 jet trainers. Two single-aircraft alert shelters, likely occupied by alert F-102s, are positioned on the left side of the apron. At the bottom right is the Reserve/CONAC Apron under construction, with six of the Air Force Reserve C-119 Flying Boxcar transports parked on the finished portion – other C-119s are seen at the top left corner on the western end of Portland AFB’s facilities in the old reciprocating engine maintenance area.
