230418-N-ML137-1018 KEKAHA, Hawai‘i (April 18, 2023) A Regulus autopilot box, a historical artifact from the cultural resources department at Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Barking Sands, was used during the Cold War era Regulus Missile test and training program and allowed submarines or aircraft to control the navigational system via remote steering. PMRF is the world’s largest instrumented multi-environment range capable of supporting surface, subsurface, air and space operations simultaneously.
