230418-N-ML137-1026 KEKAHA, Hawai‘i (April 18, 2023) A leho he‘e shell, a historical artifact from the cultural resources department at Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Barking Sands, was a popular octopus fishing lure commonly used in ancient times by Native Hawaiians in the Nohili dunes area. PMRF is the world’s largest instrumented multi-environment range capable of supporting surface, subsurface, air and space operations simultaneously.
