230418-N-ML137-1047 KEKAHA, Hawai‘i (April 18, 2023) A fragment of a ko‘i, a historical artifact from the cultural resources department at Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Barking Sands, was a stone woodworking tool used in ancient times by Native Hawaiians to carve out canoes. PMRF is the world’s largest instrumented multi-environment range capable of supporting surface, subsurface, air and space operations simultaneously.
