Betsy Weissbrod of the Uniformed Services University’s Val G. Hemming Simulation Center demonstrates how practitioners can use advanced human simulation systems to hone their skill sets and gain confidence at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring, Maryland during the July 29, 2023, Military Medical Innovation: The Future is Here event.
Weissbrod shows visitors a simulator constructed to help train surgeons on how to do a vascular shunt procedure—the creation of an artificial connection between a vein and an artery to help control blood flow. The simulator was developed for Operation Gunpowder, a field exercise for third year medical students at USU, and was made using 3D printing, mold making, and casting.
