Nikki McMinn from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s 3D Medical Applications Center discusses innovative uses of 3D printing in healthcare settings at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring, Maryland during the July 29, 2023, Military Medical Innovation: The Future is Here event.
This 3D printing lab creates medical models, custom implants, simulation and training models, and orthotic and prosthetic components for military service members and their families. Some of the equipment on display are training tools surgeons use to learn how to do different procedures and understand better the type of injury and area they will be operating on.
In the future, the 3D Medical Applications Center hopes to build on their implants that are available and provide more accurate simulation training models. (Disclosure: This image has been cropped to emphasize the subject.) (National Museum of Health and Medicine Photo by Ian Herbst)
