Dr. Ravi Chaudhary, assistant secretary of the Air Force for energy, installations and environment, visits with Airmen from a facilities assessment team while at the Oscoda Wurtsmith Airport in Oscoda, Michigan, Aug. 10, 2023. The Michigan Air National Guard has been utilizing the airport and other locations around the state to exercise their ability to perform agile combat employment operations at remote locations. Over the past two years, the Michigan Air National Guard has conducted several highway landings with A-10 Thunderbolts II and at various small airports with KC-135 Stratotankers. The facilities team is comprised of Airmen from numerous specialty areas who determine locations can be used and what special considerations may exist at the various locations. Chaudhary visited several locations around the state during the visit, hearing details about agile combat employment operations and locations in the state as well as several innovative projects being developed by the Kelly Johnson Joint All-Domain Innovation Center, a Michigan National Guard program is building partnerships between industry, DoD research agencies and academia. The visit took place during Exercise Northern Strike 2023, a premier reserve component training event that integrates both U.S. and partner nation readiness training to build interoperability and strengthen partnerships in an all-domain environment.
