    Squadron: 45th Civil Engineer Squadron
Base: Patrick Space Force Base, Florida
Nominated by: Lt Col Robert Barnes

1st Lt Kelby Bailey hit the ground running when he arrived at Patrick Space Force Base, Florida in 2021. Fresh out of the United States Air Force Academy, where he was a key member of the football program, he filled in as the deputy to our Engineering Flight Chief for a year. In the role, he worked through the loss of several key personnel to re-build the Portfolio Optimization program. Among his accomplishments, he facilitated a visit from a sitting U.S. Senator, ensured infrastructure needs were communicated, and led two Facilities Boards. The first Board took place during the transition from COVID and Bailey ensured the squadron had a record-setting end of year program in FY22. In his second year, Bailey transitioned to the Cape Support Flight at Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he ensures projects and the Base Operations Support contract are on track to support the ever-increasing launch mission. Part of his mission has included the development of the “Spaceport of the Future” effort, worth over $1B over the FYDP between Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg Space Force Base. Bailey has helped ensure day-to-day business of maintenance is unfaltering while the flight focuses resources on new initiatives. Bailey has been the perfect teammate and an amazing student of the process. He has a bright future ahead of him, has already started his graduate degree studies, and is currently projected for an assignment to the EOD training pipeline this coming summer.
