Squadron: 5th Civil Engineer Squadron
Base: Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota
Nominated by: Mr. AJ Muhs
As a brand-new EOD craftsman, SSgt Mason Falck led his three-member team to a victory at the Regional EOD Team of the Year competition in March 2023. He bested nine other teams from four MAJCOMs to earn his place at the Air Force level competition in August 2023 at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. Falck’s performance as the EOD Flight Operations NCOIC has been unmatched. In his position, he has been the focal point for the flight’s U.S. Secret Service support mission taskings. He has deployed teams to support nine missions on two continents that have protected the President, Vice President, and foreign dignitaries from Africa and India. With over 1,000 man-hours, these missions have secured key negotiations with allies to promote international partnerships and the United States’ national security. Additionally, Falck has managed the squadron’s Personnel Reliability Program and the flight’s 24-hour stand-by roster for Minot EOD emergency response support of the base’s $6B nuclear deterrence mission. His keen abilities in team management have led to the resolution of 15 emergencies and averted delays to the Wing’s B-52H launches for EUCOM bound bomber task forces and STRATCOM’s largest nuclear exercise, GLOBAL THUNDER 2023. His leadership and performance have secured him a coin from the 8 AF Command Chief, brought him recognition as the 5th Bomb Wing’s NCO of the quarter for 4th quarter of 2022 and superior performer during the AFGSC Nuclear Surety Inspection in 2023.
