This #FortRileyFriday we continue our look at facilities constructed to support activities around the old Artillery Post.
402 Holbrook Avenue was built in 1903 as an enlisted barracks for the Artillery Post. It was constructed with #limestone walls and foundation, wood and concrete floors and a slate roof. It had a capacity of 160 Soldiers. According to the Army Corps of Engineers, building 402 was initially named Gillis Hall in honor of Army Chief Quartermaster MAJ James Gillis. MAJ Gillis is partially responsible for the decision to construct separate posts for the cavalry and artillery at #FortRiley.
Today, 402 Holbrook Ave. is home to the 287th Military Police Company, 97th
MP Battalion, part of the 89th MP Brigade.
