This #FortRileyFriday we continue our look at facilities built to support activities around the old Artillery Post.
Custer Hall, building 403 Holbrook Avenue, was named for George Armstrong Custer. It opened in 1889 and originally served as the Artillery Post Administration Building.
It was constructed with #limestone walls and foundation, a slate roof and wooden floors. An expansion immediately west of the original building (date unknown) nearly doubled the size of the facility.
Custer Hall is one of the most unique buildings on #Fort Riley. Its distinguishing feature is the parapet, described as a protective wall along the edge of a roof or other place of concealment for troops, located on its east side overlooking Artillery Parade Field.
Custer Hall was renovated in the early 2000's. It now serves as the home of the 78th Military Police Detachment Criminal Investigations Division (CID).
