A U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC), Marine listens to a Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival (MCIWS) while using a self-made emergency flotation device during water survival training at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii, Feb. 27, 2024. MARFORPAC MCIWS trained Marines from units around the island, including the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, through basic and intermediate swim qualifications to fulfill their swim qualification requirements during this multiple-hour exercise. Marines must be able to understand and apply flotation techniques to demonstrate their survivability in an aquatic environment. The water survival training is designed to reduce fear, raise self-confidence, and develop Marines with the ability to survive in water. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Jonathan McElderry)
