U.S. Army 1st L. Samuel Preul, an armor officer assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, gives a tour of his M1A2 Abrams tank to Anna Clunes, British ambassador to Poland, during the 80th anniversary of the Great Escape community event at the Stalag Luft III prisoner of war museum in Zagan, Poland, March 24, 2024. The American Soldiers, currently deployed to Poland, provided displays of U.S. Army tanks and aircraft alongside Polish military vehicles and equipment for event attendees to explore. The U.S. Soldiers’ mission in Europe is to engage in multinational training and exercises across the continent, working alongside NATO Allies and regional security partners to bolster security along NATO’s eastern flank. Clunes spoke about the bravery and sacrifice of the allied group of prisoners and marked the 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession into NATO during the commemoration ceremony of the airmen’s daring escape.
