U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade and 3rd Infantry Division display modern military equipment at the 80th anniversary of the Great Escape community event at the Stalag Luft III prisoner of war museum in Zagan, Poland, March 23, 2024. The American Soldiers, currently deployed to Poland, provided displays of U.S. Army tanks and aircraft alongside Polish military vehicles and equipment for event attendees to explore. Attendees witnessed the commemoration of the airmen’s daring escape through Tunnel Harry and the deaths of those prisoners that were recaptured by the Nazi forces. The U.S. Soldiers’ mission in Europe is to engage in multinational training and exercises across the continent, working alongside NATO Allies and regional security partners to bolster security along NATO’s eastern flank.
