Military aircraft from several eras were on display at The Great Texas Airshow April 07, 2024, at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. Static displays give the community the opportunity to see inside some of the Air Force’s most impactful assets and talk to the service members who use and maintain them. The BT-13 Vultee was used by the U.S. Army Air Corps as a trainer plane in the late 1930s. During World War II, the BT-13 was the basic trainer flown by most American pilots, including the WASP. Basic flight training followed primary training, and it preceded advanced training. The BT-13 was heavier and had twice the horsepower of the primary trainers. It required the student pilot to use two-way radio communications, landing flaps, and a two-position Hamilton Standard propeller. (U.S. Air Force photo by Brian G. Rhodes)
