U.S. troops were able to discover a deeper understanding of Arab-Islamic life in the Middle East during a two-day cultural event on, April 10 and 11. Alva was on pass from Iraq while participating in the U.S. Central Command rest and recuperation pass program at Camp As Sayliyah. "It definitely makes us more aware of Middle Eastern culture. In Iraq, we hardly ever leave the confinements of our compound. We can safely meet and talk to the people here." Qatar International Adventures supplied most of the Arabic atmosphere and educational experience, to include camels, falcons, tents, clothing, beverages, food and henna body art. Local nationals provided explanations and guidance into their time-honored traditions.
