SHUAYBAH PORT, Kuwait (August 7, 2004) Navy explosive ordnance disposal divers set out for a day's work as the sun rises. The divers are trained to find and dismantle or safely detonate explosive devices. Pictured here, they are on their way to check on a patrol boat that is about to take off to meet the USS Wasp, which is on its way into the port to pick up the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit, which had been in Afghanistan since April. This deployment was the longest MEU deployment on record and was unique for the fact that it deployed to a land-locked country. Typically, MEU deploys for 30 days or less to countries with seaside frontage.
