U.S. Army Soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division Support Brigade receive instructions on how to properly treat a casualty for a heat injury during the medical lane of the Expert Infantryman Badge, Expert Soldier Badge, and Expert Field Medical Badge (E3B) training at Fort Drum, New York, from Sept. 16-29, 2004. To receive a GO on this station, they must identify heat injury types, signs, symptoms, and treatments within five minutes, achieving 100% accuracy for heat cramps and correctly identifying at least three signs and symptoms for both heat exhaustion and heat stroke without errors. Soldiers must also demonstrate proper treatment, including treating heat stroke within five minutes, without causing further injury.
