Benjamin Grice, commander of 510th Human Resource Company, inserts the buffer spring assembly into an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon while practicing assembly during the weapon lane of the Expert Infantryman Badge, Expert Soldier Badge, and Expert Field Medical Badge (E3B) training at Fort Drum, New York, from Sept. 16-29, 2004. To receive a GO on this station, he must clear, disassemble, correctly match parts with their nomenclature, reassemble, and perform a functions check on the M249 within three minutes, ensuring all steps are done in sequence without errors.
