New leadership positions created on October 1, 1962 when the 185th Tactical Fighter Group was first organized as part of the Iowa Air National Guard in Sioux City. Originally organized as the 174th Fighter Squadron in 1946, the birth of 185th TFG doubled the size of the Iowa ANG unit, creating additional leadership positions. Most of the 185th leadership, like Group Commander Lt. Colonel Don Forney were veterans of the 2nd World War. 185th TFG Graphic 1962
