Iowa Air National Guard 185th Tactical Fighter Group Commander, Lt. Colonel Don Forney introduces 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron commander Major Warren Nelson to a member of a federal inspection team on arrival at the Sioux City ANG base on October 11, 1962 shortly after 185th TFG’s 1 October 1962 federal recognition. The unit’s 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron had been in operation in Sioux City since the end of the 2nd World War. The creation of the 185th TFG grew the unit to over 800 airmen, doubling the size of the Iowa ANG unit. 185th TFG photo
