A ramp full of U.S. Air Force F-100 Super Sabre aircraft at the newly created Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Tactical Fighter Group in Sioux City, Iowa on October 19, 1962 shortly after 185th TFG was first organized on October 1st the same year. During the pervious 12 months the unit had been converting from aerial reconnaissance, trading-in their RF-84F aircraft. By 1962 the Group received their full complement of F-100s. The Group’s 174th Fighter Squadron had been in operation in Sioux City since the end of the 2nd World War. With the creation of the 185th TFG the unit grew to over 800 airmen, doubling the size of the Iowa ANG unit. 185th TFG photo 185th TFG photo
