Gold Star mother, Jean Harris, of Forest Park, Illinois, speaks with U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Michael J. Eastridge, the Deputy Adjutant General of the Illinois Army National Guard as she honors her stepson, fallen U.S. Army Sgt. Joshua Harris, at the Annual St. Barbara’s Day Ball held at Double Tree Suites in Downers Grove, Illinois, Dec. 7, 2024. Sgt. Joshua Harris was killed in action on Sept. 17, 2008, in Gerdia Seria, Afghanistan. The battalion's Gold Star Families attend the ball each year as a way to stay connected to their fallen hero's unit and to celebrate the unit's accomplishments. Keeping that connection is important to them and to the battalion's Soldiers. Harris is also a Survivor Outreach Services coordinator assisting other Families of the Fallen. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
