Gold Star mother, Jean Harris, of Forest Park, Illinois, dines with U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Michael J. Eastridge, the Deputy Adjutant General of the Illinois Army National Guard - Army, and Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Kelly, the State Command Sergeant Major of the Illinois Army National Guard, as she honors her stepson, fallen U.S. Army Sgt. Joshua Harris, at the Annual St. Barbara’s Day Ball held at Double Tree Suites in Downers Grove, Illinois, Dec. 7, 2024. Sgt. Joshua Harris was killed in action on Sept. 17, 2008, in Gerdia Seria, Afghanistan. The battalion's Gold Star Families attend the ball each year as a way to stay connected to their fallen hero's unit and to celebrate the unit's accomplishments. Keeping that connection is important to them and to the battalion's Soldiers. Harris, who refers to herself as Sgt.
