The 103rd Airlift Wing’s Centennial Heritage C-130H Hercules transport aircraft rests parked outside a hangar at Bradley Air National Guard Base, East Granby, Connecticut, March 1, 2025. This C-130H transport aircraft, serial 93-1456, honors the legacy of the 103rd Airlift Wing and its subordinate squadron, the 118th Airlift Squadron. Along the side of the aircraft is a distinctive black and yellow lightning bolt, which was a design created by U.S. Army Air Force Lt. Phil Dickey, armament officer and unit artist of the 118th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron (predecessor to the 118th Airlift Squadron). This design was painted on the squadron’s P-51 Mustangs while overseas in the China-Burma-India Theater of operations, earning the unit its nickname, “Black Lightning”. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
