Sgt. Jeffrey Lovelace, a martial arts instructor, signals the recruits of Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, to stand at the position of attention during their introduction to the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program on Feb. 11, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. This was the recruits’ first martial arts session, and Lovelace, a 27-year-old from Fairmont, Neb., taught them the foundation for future sessions. The program fuses hand-to-hand combat skills with character development, yielding a strong, mentally sound Marine warrior. Delta Company is scheduled to graduate May 2, 2014. (Photo by Cpl.
