Sgt. Jeffrey Lovelace, a martial arts instructor, leads the recruits of Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, in drills during their introduction to Marine Corps martial arts Feb. 11, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. During the drills, recruits practiced the basic fighting stance and learned how to position themselves on the physical training field to practice martial arts techniques. The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program fuses hand-to-hand combat skills with character development, yielding a strong, mentally sound Marine warrior. Lovelace, 27, is from Fairmont, Neb.
