U.S. Marine Capt. Rick Everett, from Honolulu, Hawaii, practices stick-fighting techniques April 28 at Camp O'Donnell during exercise Balikatan 2015 as part of a martial arts exchange. The Marines learned the art of Philippine stick fighting in exchange for teaching the Philippine Army members the Marine Corps Mixed Martial Arts Program. MCMAP is a mixed martial arts program developed by the Marine Corps to combine hand-to-hand and close quarter techniques with morale and team building functions. Balikatan is an annual bilateral training exercise with the Philippines aimed at enhancing readiness and military-to-military relations, territorial defense, humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations.
