150729-N-FO981-023 SAN DIEGO (July 29, 2015) – Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) 3rd Class Jordan Pantalone samples water from the high purity reverse osmosis (HPRO) system to ensure carbon filters are functioning properly aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). High purity water is used in cooling electrical equipment and machinery aboard America. America is currently undergoing a Post-Shakedown Availability (PSA) in which the ship’s crew and contractors make repairs and improvements to the ship’s design. Every new ship conducts a PSA that is designed to harness results of a thorough test and evaluation period and pave the way to operational employment.
