150729-N-VR008-036 SAN DIEGO (July 29, 2015) – Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) 3rd Class Daniel Altemus cycles oil through the hub in Main Machinery Room 2 for propeller pitch control aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). America is currently undergoing a Post-Shakedown Availability (PSA) in which the ship’s crew and contractors make repairs and improvements to the ship’s design. Every new ship conducts a PSA that is designed to harness results of a thorough test and evaluation period and pave the way to operational employment.
