150727-N-FO981-045 SAN DIEGO (July 27, 2015) - Seaman Aaron Ormiston, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), uses pneumatic grinder to clear away rust in preparation for painting evolution. America is currently undergoing a Post-Shakedown Availability (PSA) in which the ship’s crew and contractors make repairs and improvements to the ship’s design. Every new ship conducts a PSA that is designed to harness results of a thorough test and evaluation period and pave the way to operational employment.
