Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes participates in a tandem jump with Sgt. 1st Class Chris Acevado, parachutist, Tandem Team, Vertical Formation Skydiver, U.S. Army Parachute Team, “Golden Knights” during a tandem camp held in Ottawa, Ill., Aug. 12. Hayes, a retired Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, was there with 13 other participants who participated in a tandem jump with the team there. Participants jumped from a height of 13,000 feet at Sky Dive Chicago. The “Golden Knights,” based at Fort Bragg, N.C., offered local Chicago land educators, media and government officials the opportunity to experience jumping from a plane, rushing 2.5 miles to the ground at 120 miles per hour.
