A drill instructor from Instructional Training Company demonstrates the proper way to execute a rear-hand choke during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program session at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Nov. 30. One of the purposes of learning MCMAP is to teach recruits basic offensive and defensive techniques, and this gives them the opportunity to master the moves in preparation for the MCMAP test later in training. Today, all males recruited west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 29.
