FORT HOOD, Texas — A Vehicle Optics Sensor System (VOSS) peeks above a ridgeline, while its parent Medium Mine Protected Vehicle, Type II (MMPV II) remains safely concealed. The VOSS enables the MMPV II crew to observe from cover, and at greater elevation and distance than the naked eye. Additionally, the VOSS has multiple different sensor capabilities, enabling the vehicle crew and unit leadership from the 510th Route Clearance Platoon, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade to observe their battlespace in several modes. The U.S. Army Operational Test Command gathers data from Soldiers operating the gear to determine whether or not the system meets the needs of a route clearance company’s mission.
