U.S. Army Reserve 1st Lt. Mandy Smith, bottom, demonstrates placing a catheter on U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. Melinda Splane as emergency room students gather to watch June 15 at the Hopital Militaire D’Instruction in N’Djamena, Chad during combined exercise Medical Readiness Training Exercise or known as MEDRETE 16-3. Smith is an emergency room nurse with the 405th Combat Support Hospital, and Splane is a licensed practical nurse from the 7th Mission Support Command. The exercise is a joint effort between the Chadian government, U.S. Army Africa, the 405th CSH, 7th Mission Support Command and the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) from the U.S. Army Reserve from June 6 to 22, 2016. MEDRETE 16-3 serves as an opportunity for U.S. and Chadian forces to hone and strengthen their life saving skills as well as reinforce the partnership between both countries.
