Military police with the 65th MP Company, deployed from Fort Bragg, N.C., attended the closing ceremony of the Medical Readiness Training Exercise, May 20. The Soldiers provided security for both MEDRETEs conducted in the southern region of Haiti. The MEDRETE was held over a period of 10 days and provided more than 4,100 Haitians in the Les Cayes community with basic, immediate health care. The American University of the Caribbean provided the facilities for more than 40 Navy service members, several Haitian doctors, Uruguayan Soldiers assigned to MINUSTAH and Haitian Coast Guard members to see patients. Haitians in had the opportunity to be seen by doctors, dentists and optometrists. The exercises are leading up to the beginning of the New Horizon projects, scheduled to begin in June.
