Maj. Gen. Simeon Trombitas, commanding general, Joint Task Force-Haiti, and Maj. Gen. Luiz Guilherme Paul Cruz, force commander, MINUSTAH, were guests of honor at the closing ceremony, May 20, for the Medical Readiness Training Exercise held at the American University of the Caribbean. The MEDRETE provided more than 4,100 patients in the Les Cayes area with basic, immediate health care over 10 days. More than 40 Navy service members, several Haitian doctors, Uruguayan Soldiers assigned to MINUSTAH and Haitian Coast Guard members assisted in the MEDRETE. Two MEDRETES have been conducted in the southern region of Haiti. Both MEDRETEs are an example of what may be expected with the New Horizon projects, which are scheduled to begin in June.
