170829-N-UX013-266 APRA HARBOR, Guam (Aug. 29, 2017) Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Jai Sanders, assigned to the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), signals Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1651, attached to Naval Beach Unit 7, for a stern-gate marriage on the ship’s well deck to move Marines and equipment of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) ashore for training. Ashland is in Guam for a scheduled voyage repair availability (VRAV) while Marines of the 31st MEU will conduct unit-level training ashore. Ashland and the 31st MEU are operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
