170829-N-UX013-217 APRA HARBOR, Guam (Aug. 29, 2017) Marine Lance Cpl. Angel Garcia, assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), checks the bolt of his M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) before disembarking ashore for training. Ashland is in Guam for a scheduled voyage repair availability (VRAV) while Marines of the 31st MEU will conduct unit-level training ashore. Ashland and the 31st MEU are operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
