Colorado Army National Guard Pfc. Darren Monnett, a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System driver with 3rd Battalion, 157th Field Artillery, Colorado Army National Guard prepares his system for a “hot panel” firing simulation at the Colorado Springs Airport, Colo., prior to loading onto a C-130 Hercules aircraft for delivery to Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Sept. 20, 2017.
In support of exercise War Horse Strike, this joint mission between 3-157th FA and the 41st Airlift Squadron, 19th Airlift Wing from Little Rock Air Force Base, Little Rock, Ark., not only helped meet the battalion’s requirement to airlift their HIMARS and conduct “hot panel” training in field conditions, but gave the C-130 crew experience with this type of cargo under flying conditions similar to those in Afghanistan while operating out of unimproved runway surfaces.
