With only limited forward visibility and no peripheral or rear vision, Colorado Army National Guard Spc. Darren Monnett, a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System driver with 3rd Battalion, 157th Field Artillery is entirely dependent on the C-130 crewmembers to ground-guide him as he backs his vehicle onto a C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 41st Airlift Squadron, 19th Airlift Wing, from Little Rock Air Force Base for its transportation from the Colorado Springs Airport, Colo., to Fort Carson, Sept. 20, 2017.
In support of exercise War Horse Strike, this joint mission between 3-157th FA and the 19th Airlift Wing, 41st Airlift Squadron, from Little Rock Air Force Base, not only helped meet the battalion’s requirement to airlift their HIMARS and conduct “hot panel” training in field conditions, but gave the C-130 crew experience with this type of cargo under flying conditions similar to those in Afghanistan while operating out of unimproved runway surfaces.
