U.S. Marines and Australian Army soldiers look out over the live fire range on Townshend Island during a combined joint live fire exercise during Talisman Sabre 2011. The combined joint live fire exercise held on Townshend Island in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area provided both Australian and U.S. JTAC's the opportunity to guide fire support from U.S. FA-18 and Australian FA-18 Super Hornets, Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters and Australian and U.S. ships. Talisman Sabre 2011 is a U.S.-led, Australian-supported bilateral exercise aimed at training U.S. and Australian forces in planning and conducting combined operations and improving U.S.-Australian interoperability.
