A Texas Guardsmen from El Paso based 3rd Battalion 133rd Field Artillery Regiment, deployed to the Presidio Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol station, tightens the last lug nut on a trailer's wheel, bringing it back to mission ready. On this deployment Pfc. Andres Lopez performs a completely different job than either his civilian or military jobs, but vehicle maintenance satisfies his need for a calculable mission, “…my civilian job I do asset protection for ‘Best Buy’ (keep a lookout for any thefts) here, I am a mechanic… but I learned basic auto mechanics from my three uncles... I like the work. It’s hot, but the work is measurable,” said Lopez. Every time a service member takes one of the non-enforcement positions agents typically get detailed off the line to do, such as administrative or maintenance/fleet care, makes an immediate impact on the number of badges on the border. The Guard's support is keeping Agents on the line and their essential gear mission ready, 23 May.
