Texas Guardsmen from El Paso's 3rd Battalion 133 Field Artillery Regiment support firearms safety at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol Del Rio sector's only indoor weapons range at the Comstock station. Deploying troops to assist and support CBP quickly impacts the mission each time a service member takes a non-enforcement position(s) where Agents, typically, get detailed off the line to do, such as fleet, maintenance and weapons ranges. The service members eliminate or reduce the number of Agents needed to perform the non-enforcement duties. Cpl. Joseph Alvarado supports the CBP Firearms instructor, Border Patrol Agent Diaz Ascension with set up, scoring and safety while Border Patrol Agent Miguel Perez qualifies. Border Patrol Agents must qualify with their weapons every quarter and part of the Guardsmen’s mission, getting more badges back to the border, is assisting with keeping their vehicles, ATVs and ranges mission ready, 16 May.
