U.S. Army Sgt. Christopher Tunis and Pfc. Laquitta Cowley, natives of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Decatur, Ala., respectively, both assigned to Company A, 172nd Support Battalion, 172nd Infantry Brigade, Task Force Blackhawk, wait while a Chinook prepares to take off nearby for a sling load operation Oct. 5, at Forward Operating Base Sharana. Tunis, Cowley and the soldiers at the helicopter landing zone conduct these types of missions frequently. The HLZ is a 24/7 operation and the soldiers must be proficient in their jobs while maintaining the highest levels of safety.
