Iron plaques show the lineage of the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), underway in the Pacific Ocean, Sept. 3, 2018. LHD 1 is the tenth U.S. Navy vessel to bear the name Wasp, whose history dates to the American Revolution. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
